Annie Murphy Paul: What we learn before we’re born

It was in October 2010 when I came across a field that I had been longing for since I was 3 years old. I still remember with the clarity of yesterday’s memory the very moment my mom told me a baby was in her tummy. At that moment I thought it was the most fascinating thing I had ever heard and witnessed. Even today I still look at a baby’s experience in the womb with the same amount of awe as I did when I was 3.

Fetal programming is a new field and one that will change the course of health as we know it. There is a lot of information out there but we are still just at the tip of the iceberg in our knowledge and full understanding of how a baby’s development in the womb impacts the rest of his or her life? In 2010 Annie Murphy Paul’s TIME magazine article was one of my first exposures to this field. She also wrote one of my favorite books Origins: How the nine months before birth shape the rest of our lives.

I wanted to share her TED talk with you because she gives a great explanation of what this field is about. After watching her talk I hope you begin to realize the magnitude of the impact this field can have world wide. Our society and our species depend on this.
